Broadcom and S3 Group put STBs to test

Set-top boxes built for BSkyB with the help of the S3 Group and Broadcom are being but through their paces.

The Amstrad built DRX890 and DRX895 have already been shipped to customers of Sky TV, but testing continues in order to evaluate their performance.

The set-top boxes are low power, 1.5 terabyte devices, to which Broadcom contributed the BCM7335 HD DVR satellite system on chip (SoC) which provides the machines with their low power consumption.

As for the S3 Group, it has used its advanced facilities see how well the machines perform under test conditions, through its testing facilities.

The new set top boxes are 3D capable and ready to receive the advanced on demand services planned by Sky TV.
