It seems that a deal which saw the TV channels run by cable provider Virgin Media sold to rival satellite broadcaster BSkyB, has got the attention of the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).
The OFT’s involvement in this deal does not mean that there is anything wrong or that the OFT will be putting a stop to the deal.
However there are a few factors that need to be examined to make sure there are no competition or regularity issues and more importantly, whether this deal could be considered as a merger, in which case different rules apply.
During the next few weeks, the OFT is open to industry input over the deal.
This could be the one deal involving BSkyB that Virgin Media does not complain about.
