Apple embraces confusion with iTV brand

Despite the inevitable confusion with ITV, Apple TV is to be renamed iTV with an all important lower case i.

Along with a name to match the iPod, iPad and iPhone, it is believed that iTV will use the same A4 processor as the iPhone 4 which is not compatible with 1080i or 1080p video.

It is difficult to understand why Apple has chosen to take this route as it means that iTV will not play properly with HD televisions.

On the positive side, the new service is expected to come with Apps, capitalizing on Apple’s Apps store, and the Apple TV Box will cost a reasonable $99.

iTV is expected to launch in this autumn.
