Google has acquired Jambool the creator of ‘Social Gold’ a virtual software currency platform.

Jambool began life in 2006 as a social collaboration platform but quickly evolved to become help developers offer in-app payment options for users.

The acquisition will allow Google to expand its payments offering and expand into digital goods and content.

It is part of the search giant’s move into social networking and follows the acquisition of Slide which makes games and apps for social networking sites and social games creator Zynga.
