Another recession-friendly mobile phone has been unveiled, this one from Virgin Media in conjunction with Alcatel.

You can pick up the VM202, which comes with a “soft touch” Qwerty sliding keyboard, and an exclusive “dazzle pink” colour scheme, for just £30 on PAYG. Mind you, the sunglasses to protect your retinas from that glaring pink paint job will run you to an extra tenner or so.

The handset comes with 1GB of storage via microSD, and it contains social networking aplenty, with quick access to Facebook, Twitter and emails promised.

Opera Mini is included for web browsing, along with an MP3 player and 3.5mm audio jack. An FM radio and VGA camera round the package off. Not bad at all considering the price this little lot is going for.

Jonathan Kini, Director of Mobile at Virgin Media, said: “The VM202 is a great new addition to our pay-as-you-go range and we’re delighted to be first to bring this stylish, affordable device to our customers. With easy access to Facebook and Twitter plus great multimedia features, the handset is perfect for teenage socialites on the go.”

Virgin Media has a one month exclusive on the phone, which is out now. Topping up your PAYG with £10 of talk time will also net you 300 free texts.
