Richard Desmond, the chairman of Five’s new owner Northern & Shell, has wasted no time in getting the channel back on board Project Canvas, according to Techradar.
Five was forced to leave Canvas at the beginning of July because of financial difficulties which forced the company’s sale.
Desmond’s decision to rejoin the IPTV project follows some sweeping changes at Five that have significantly cut costs.
The casualties include Five’s chairman and chief executive Dawn Airey who is leaving of her own accord to join Five’s former owner RTL, channel controller, Richard Woolfe and director of strategy Charles Constable, as part of a 25 per cent cut in staff headcount.
When Five withdrew from Project Canvas it said it still supported the project, and this view has carried over into the new ownership, with Richard Desmond confirming that Canvas is still a key element in Five’s future.
Earlier this month Project Canvas said it was looking for manufacturing partners to build the hardware to carry the IPTV platform.
