Toshiba tablet images spilled onto net

More tablet news this morning, this time regarding Toshiba’s effort at clawing some market share away from the iPad.

Notebook Italia has published some leaked pictures of what the site claims is Toshiba’s tablet, which has apparently been christened the SmartPad.

The images show a very iPad derivative looking device, not that this is necessarily a bad thing, as it’s all very aesthetically slick. The tablet has four touch buttons on the right hand side, and a webcam on top. The buttons and webcam are oriented with landscape mode usage in mind. Check out the pics here (link courtesy of Trusted Reviews).

Spec wise, the display is rumoured to be a 10 inch affair, again like the iPad, powered by Nvidia Tegra 2 technology and running Android. USB ports and an HDMI port are also visible on the snaps.

There’s no word, however, on how close this model is to a potential launch. The various planned tablets will all be landing soon enough, mind you, starting with Samsung’s Galaxy Tablet which is likely to be out next month.

It always makes me smile how IT organisations have “leaks” of their forthcoming products - anything to try and stall users from buying products that already exist. It appears that everyone will be making tablets now that Apple has led the way. I’ve yet to see anything tangible - so I bought the iPad and it’s EXCELLENT!
