ViewSonic jumps on tablet bandwagon

It seems that the stereotypical philosophy held in many old folks’ homes is also true in the world of mobile computing. Namely that you can never have enough tablets.

With upcoming iPad rivals from Samsung, Rim, HP, LG, Dell, Asus, Toshiba, Motorola – the list goes on and on – you wouldn’t think there was room for another tablet to be announced.

Well, think again. ViewSonic, a company best known for its monitors, has unveiled its great thin hope for capturing a slice of the market Apple has thus far dominated.

ViewSonic is actually planning two models, the first of which is the ViewPad 7. This will be a 7 inch tablet powered by Android, boasting wi-fi, 3G, GPS, a USB port, and both front and back cameras which the iPad is lacking.

A bigger 10 inch model will also be manufactured, and this will apparently be dual boot, with Android and Windows on board. It’s also likely to boast a chunkier processor, so might be running Windows 7 as one of its schizophrenic OS options.

Of course, this one will cost a fair bit more than the ViewPad 7. Although it’s the comparison to the iPad’s price which will be the most telling – and of course all the other tablets which will soon be out there.
