Postal DVD rental service LoveFilm is further expanding its online delivery service, via a deal signed with film company MGM.

LoveFilm’s online player will now offer MGM films on a pay-per-play basis, as well as older films from the MGM back catalogue for free. In total, some 4,100 flicks will be available on-demand.

The MGM Classics you’ll be able to watch for gratis include the likes of West Side Story and the original 1974 BAFTA-nominated The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. Sadly, it’s a big Doctor No when it comes to the James Bond films, as these won’t be included in the classics line-up, Cnet reports.

Simon Calver, CEO of LoveFilm, commented: “We’re delighted to bring MGM’s legendary content to LoveFilm. With over 85 years making top quality movies, the MGM stable will be a notable addition to our expanding ‘Watch Online’ service. With the digital revolution underway, our opportunity for growth is huge and the addition of MGM titles is a substantial development in enhancing our digital catalogue.”

LoveFilm now has more than one million members, and has expanded rapidly since it gobbled up Amazon’s film rental service just over two years ago.
