fring offers international calls for 1¢

In direct emulation of SkypeOut, mobile VoIP service Fring has launched FringOut, which allows Nokia phone users to call anyone in the world from just 1 cent a minute.

Fring plans to roll the service out to iPhone and Android handsets.

Calls to Canada will cost from 0.4 cents and calls to India from 1.1 cents.

The launch of FringOut follows the recent move by Skype to block access for fring users after fring enabled video chat over 3G networks on its iPhone app.

Previously iPhone users could only use video chat over Apple’s Facetime application, which only works between iPhone users, over WiFi.

Frings move caused video calling to rocket and the company had to temporarily reduce its support to Skype, prompting Skype’s decision to block fring.

Now FringOut has been launched, it will be interesting to see what Skype’s next move will be.
