PS3 firmware 3.50 arrives with 3D Blu-ray support

New firmware has hit the PS3 today, version 3.50, and it brings with it support for 3D Blu-ray disc playback.

So you can now enjoy 3D Blu-ray movies on the console, providing you have the requisite other hardware in the form of a 3DTV and glasses, of course.

However, the EU PlayStation blog notes: “Depending on the content, some elements may be displayed differently in 3D on the PS3 system than on other playback devices.”

It should be interesting to see how smoothly this feature works off the bat for those of you early adopters who do have a three dimensional goggle box.

A couple of other new features have also been added with 3.50, including the ability to report spam or harassing messages from other PSN users. Alongside that, it’s now possible to access public information on Facebook from Facebook supported games.

The 3.50 firmware update is 170MB in size.
