Dell only announced its tablet plans for a full sized 7 inch slate (as opposed to the Streak mini-tablet with its 5 inch display) last week.
And it appears that this 7 inch Android tablet will be out within the next few weeks, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal, which quotes Amit Midha, Dell Greater China President.
Midha also added that a 10 inch version, the same size as the iPad, would be on its way within the next six to twelve months as well. Furthermore, really mini-tablets are also planned, even smaller than the Streak with 4 and 3 inch displays.
While Dell will be using Android for these devices in the main, it seems that some of these future products might go the Windows OS route, or possibly even Chrome.
Leaked details of the 7 inch slate’s tech spec have put it as having a 1.3 megapixel camera and a less than impressive 4GB of memory, far less than rivals such as the iPad and Galaxy Tab, or indeed the PlayBook announced by Rim this week.
Still, that’s just a rumour at the moment, and we’ll have to wait for the official specification before we make a judgement. That should be on the way imminently, if indeed this slate is due out around the middle of next month.
