Next launches budget tablet at £180

So, what will happen next in the tablet world? Next will, apparently, as the chain which is better known for its clothing has launched its own branded slate.

The Next tablet comes with a 10 inch WXGA display, a 1GHz processor, 2GB of memory plus 8GB of further storage on a microSD card, wi-fi and twin USB ports. It runs Google’s Android OS.

But the best point about this slate is the price it’s pitched at, a consumer friendly £180, which compares very favourably to the iPad at £429, or the Samsung Galaxy Tab which is likely to weigh in at £599.

Of course, this is a basic tablet which isn’t nearly as sophisticated as those two. There’s no multi-touch here, and the battery life is only purported to be three hours, which won’t be great for when you’re on the move with the device.

Even so, it’s an interesting move by Next, and definitely an affordable toy for those who don’t want to splash out serious money on a slate. Take a closer look at the Next 10 inch tablet over at the website here.
