Yesterday, we reported that FIFA 11 hit the top of the game chart in the UK, becoming the third biggest video game launch in this country ever, only outdone by Modern Warfare 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV.
And now EA is boasting about the worldwide sales figures. Internal estimates indicate that the sports title sold 2.6 million copies across the US and Europe between release and last Saturday, raking in some $150 million. EA claims it’s the fastest selling sports game ever.
There have also been a ton of people playing it online, with 11.3 million FIFA 11 game sessions having been kicked-off over the weekend.
Along with the big sales numbers, EA also took the opportunity to announce that the FIFA 11 Ultimate Team downloadable content will be available for free come next month.
Peter Moore, President of EA Sports, commented: “We’re thrilled at how fans embraced FIFA 11 last weekend, and we are excited to be able to offer one of our most popular game modes – FIFA 11 Ultimate Team – for free this November.”
