Dell Streak will get Froyo before 2010 is out

Those of you with a Dell Streak will be pleased to know that Froyo is finally headed to the smartphone/mini-tablet.

This comes after last month’s update to 2.1, for O2 customers in the UK anyway, although it appears Dell is going to skip Android 2.1 in the States and go straight to Android 2.2 (Froyo).

According to Streak Smart, Dell has said the update will be out before the end of the year, although it reassured customers it should be “much sooner” than December 31st.

The fact that the company has halted the 2.1 update process to concentrate on rolling out 2.2 hopefully indicates that it might be due next month. This is the rumour that the Streak Smart site says it has heard previously.

Of course, the release of 2.2 on the Streak is barely going to beat the unveiling of Gingerbread, Android 3.0, which should happen before the year is out. Making Dell’s OS roll out speed more of a dribble than a Streak.
