Skype 5.0 integrates Facebook

October 14, 2010

Rumours of a deal to integrate Facebook and Skype have proved to be correct, with the release of Skype for Windows 5.0.

The latest software integrates Facebook news feed and allows users to like, comment and update their status directly from Skype, as well as giving them access to their Facebook phonebook.

Skype 5.0 also brings video conference calling for up to 10 people at a time into open beta and offers the opportunity to try it out, free of charge.

A nifty feature is ‘dynamic view’, which increases the size of the image of the person who is currently talking, which should help users to keep track of the conversation.

Skype claims that the integration of Facebook makes it more social – it certainly boosts its customer base, with 560 million registered users on Facebook to add to the 560 already on Skype.
