Taiwan’s Acer is to reveal its first range of tablet PCs next month.

The touchscreen slate computers will be unveiled at a press event in New York on the 23 November, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Details are thin on the ground, but the range is expected to be priced from $299 to $699 each.

The company will be entering a rapidly growing market, where it will compete with Apple’s successful iPad which has generated strong consumer interest in tablet devices.

A study by IMS Research estimates that 21 million tablets will ship in 2010, with the iPad expected to account for nearly three quarters of the market.

It was also reported today that Acer and fellow Taiwanese company Asustek, could be targeted by Microsoft over the use of Android in smartphones, as part of Microsoft’s ongoing patent infringement case.

Microsoft believes that Android handsets infringe on its patented technology in a number of areas including user interface and its underlying operating system.
