BT says major broadband fault ironed out

by Darren Allan

BT has issued a statement to say that the broadband fault which struck at the weekend has been completely resolved.

The problem resulted in an estimated 20,000 UK households losing their broadband, starting on Friday night at 7pm. Areas affected included northern England and Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and the highlands and islands.

It was caused by an issue at the Edinburgh node, which also flared up trouble back in September when it prompted an outage that lasted a full working day (for us up in the highlands, at any rate).

Apparently the disruption wasn’t just confirmed to broadband either, according to a report in PCR, which stated some folks’ phone service was also affected (although our phone line was fine, while our broadband went down).

However, the current issue has been cleared and BT has confirmed that everyone should now be back online and on the phone. We were actually back online first thing Saturday morning, and we imagine that was the case for most folks, although PCR reported some unlucky stragglers were still offline on Sunday.

  3. It still isn’t working for me, in Newcastle, nor for many other customers if the harassed sounding woman on their fault line is anything to go by. She told me that loads of people still have problems and that they haven’t really sorted the problem yet just patched things up.
