Today is the day when you can officially get yourself a slice of Samsung tablet action.
For the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the 7 inch rival to the iPad, is now on sale. It’s the first major rival to the iPad to arrive on the scene and attempt to steal some of those sales the Apple tablet has pretty much had to itself thus far.
The Tab has a 1GHz processor and two cameras, a 3.2 megapixel main snapper on the back, and a 1.3 megapixel front-facing one for video conferencing. The base model comes with 16GB of memory (although you can add another 32GB via a microSD slot). Wi-fi and 3G is also on board.
The device runs Android 2.2 for a full Flash web browsing experience that the iPad can’t offer, and it also sports hybrid phone capabilities.
Price-wise, it’s being offered sim-free at £529, although rumour has it a cheaper variant may emerge at some point stripped of 3G to make it less expensive to produce. That could retail at as much as £100 less to keep it competitive with the equivalent iPad offering.
