Black Ops: 1 million players on Xbox Live straight away

It seems that Call of Duty: Black Ops had almost a million gamers blasting each other on Xbox Live just after the game was launched.

Softpedia points to Treyarch’s Community Manager, Josh Olin, who posted on Twitter just an hour after the midnight launch (1am Pacific Time): “Am I getting solid intel? Is there really almost 1,000,000 players on Xbox LIVE right now??”

If so, then plenty of gamers were very quick to snap it up, and get straight onto the multiplayer without bothering with the campaign.

Sales figures are going to be massive, with a guaranteed number one next week for Activision, and probably for many weeks after. When it launched this time last year, Modern Warfare 2 held the top spot for nine weeks running.

Black Ops multiplayer has generally been better received than the single player, although some gamers are still complaining about balance issues.
