Activision has released the first numbers for the sales of Black Ops, the latest in the company’s best selling Call of Duty saga.

And apparently, according to CFO Thomas Tippl, it has outdone Modern Warfare 2 (which sold so much over the previous year, it has become the best selling video game in the UK ever).

Gamasutra reports that Black Ops has netted a staggering $360 million in its first 24 hours on sale. Predecessor Modern Warfare 2 managed $310 million, so it has been outdone by around 16%.

Black Ops will be number one in the chart next week by such a distance, it won’t be funny. It only remains to be seen if it can last as well as Modern Warfare 2, which managed nine straight weeks at the top. Will the game go all Bryan Adams on us? (Remember the infamous Everything I Do single which was top of the music chart for 16 weeks – we’re trying to forget it).

Such is the success of the Call of Duty series, there are now whispers that Activision is planning to make an MMOG out of it.
