LaCie has unleashed a new version of its Philippe Starck designed portable hard disk.

A fancy looking gadget with a polished aluminium case, the new LaCie Starck Mobile drive comes with a USB 3.0 port.

The SuperSpeed connection is theoretically ten times faster than USB 2.0, although in practice it won’t be quite so quick. You can guarantee it won’t hang about, however. And it’s fully backwards compatible with USB 2.0, as well.

The drive comes with the LaCie Setup Assistant to help hook up the unit to your PC and Mac, and also a Backup Assistant to facilitate automatic backups. 10GB of online storage is also thrown in, for extra security and remote backup.

Fortunately, the 500GB LaCie Starck Mobile USB 3.0 drive doesn’t have a designer price, and it will set you back £90.
