Kent village has UK’s slowest broadband

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who has the slowest broadband of all?

Farningham in Kent, apparently, is the place where the world wide web is stickiest in the UK. Residents are beset by treacle like surfing speeds of an average of just 1.3Mbps.

The data was put together by Top10.com, PC Advisor reports, to highlight broadband blackspots across the UK. It was compiled using some 100,000 speed tests run in the last couple of months.

Second slowest was the Scottish Borders town of Duns, on 1.43Mbps, and then Harbury in Warwickshire which clocked a meagre 1.51Mbps. It’d be quicker to run to the Google servers and get the search results yourself (or maybe not).

Interestingly, one city made the list of the top twenty worst places to surf in the UK. Worcester came in at number twenty, with a speed of 2.01Mbps, a worrying statistic for a population centre of around 100,000.

Local Farningham residents expressed surprise that their village had been singled out as the worst for broadband. Abdul J’bair, Manager of the Lion Hotel, told Kent Online: “It surprises me as I have no problems here at all, at the hotel.”

  2. That’s rubbish, sorry!

…as the max speed for most of the village where I live is 0.5mbps.

  3. I agree - I guess it’s where they got their speed test data from. They needed at least 50 results from a postcode area to include it and get an average, so I suppose a lot of smaller (and slower) places weren’t included…

  4. My Bb connection was so slow it would take 2

    weeks to download a movie!

The supplier apologised and gave me my money back.

At 2.2 miles from the exchange they said that the promised 20Mb speed was actually 2.2Mb-under ideal conditions.

It was 1.6 most days-but steady at that speed.
