Call of Duty: Black Ops racks up $650m in five days

We knew Black Ops, the latest in Activision’s Call of Duty series, was going to be a big release, but it’s surpassed perhaps even the company’s own expectations.

In terms of its worldwide figures, the game has generated revenue to the tune of $650 million, which is $100 million more than its predecessor Modern Warfare 2 managed. Those figures are internal company estimates, mind you, so could be subject to a bit of error.

Destructoid also reports that the game has been a big hit on Xbox Live, trouncing online multiplayer records with 5.9 million hours being logged by around 2.6 million gamers.

It’s a sure stayer at number one next week in the UK video game chart, the question is, can it outlast Modern Warfare 2′s nine straight weeks at the top? And will it outsell MW2 to become the new best selling video game ever in the UK?

  1. Because the people who buy this just buy a game based on its name. They cannot think for themselves nor can they actually form a meaningful opinion.
