Plusnet, the ISP owned by BT, has decided to move its call centre staff based in Durban, South Africa, to the UK.

The move to the firm’s HQ in Sheffield will create 150 jobs in the city, with a further 100 staff moving from Durban to Yorkshire, according to a report on ZDNet UK.

Bob Pullen, customer support at Plusnet, was quoted by ZDNet UK as saying: “While we’ll be sad to say goodbye to our friends in South Africa, we feel really excited about bringing all of our services back to Sheffield, and this gives us a great opportunity for us to improve our service even more.”

The regional development agency Yorkshire Forward has apparently helped fund the relocation to the tune of £1.8 million.

Plusnet offers broadband and landlines to residential and business customers. The company won an award for its customer service at this year’s ISPA Awards.

  1. I fell its a good thing for you guys to bring workflow back to your country but you could of atleast given us a heads up first. We have families to support and to come to work and to told to go back home is unfair. It the close to the festive times and we got to provide for our families, how can we now? Instead this year I don’t what I am going to do. You guys could of atleast given us 1 months notice to find another job

  2. I wonder how many people are like me. When buying any services I always check to see where their Call Centre is. If it isn’t in the UK then I go elsewhere. This isn’t a nationalistic thing, I get fed up trying to understand people talking in accents so thick I need a bread knife.
