PS3 owners start Black Ops refund petition

Call of Duty: Black Ops has been number one in the UK game chart for two weeks running since launch, and it racked up $650 million in its first five days on sale, $100 million more than Modern Warfare 2 managed.

But the undeniably hot pace of initial sales has given way to a slowing down (Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood nearly caught up in the chart this week), and indeed a certain amount of complaining from the PS3 camp.

In fact, some Sony console owners have started an iPetition, claiming that the PS3 version of Black Ops is inferior in several ways to the Xbox 360. And as such, they want a refund.

The petition states that the PS3 game has inferior graphics, more bugs, and it’s also missing features such as online split-screen which the X360 has. It has currently been signed by 620 people.

Those who have signed the petition seem to be mainly complaining about the frame rate and lack of resolution the graphics have in comparison to the Xbox, along with problems encountered in online play.

Chris Smith, one of those who signed the petition, commented: “I bought the game for the PS3 first and after playing it and seeing how bad it performed went and bought an Xbox360 copy. The Xbox copy is superior in every aspect.”

“Very disappointed that I had to buy 2 versions of the game. Also, the game has been out for over a week and I still cannot group with friends due to the ‘Error: This game session is no longer valid’ message.”

  1. Ehm, hang on.. I’ve been playing PS3 Black Ops since release day, completed the campaign, and have spent MANY hours playing online, the split screen online play feature is well used by everyone.

If your mates are quitting the game by the time you decide to accept their invites, then maybe you should educate them? Of course if your router is set up incorrectly, you may get the same issue. As for your problem with graphics, perhaps try a new TV, I’d recommend a 1080p so you can see the ps3 really shine above the box. Shame you’re missing out on the excellent graphics in this game. Thankfully, we didn’t need to put up with the severe lag issues on the box version!

So, since release, no crashes, no bugs, splitscreen online works ace, and no framerate problems. Is this article wholly fictitious? Perhaps the weird issues with graphics are because you have to sit so far away on the box version due to the huge controllers?

    1) def not inferior graphics, maybe even better.
    2) yes, more bugs, can’t deny that, especially online
    3) you can do split screen online, 620 mugs can’t lol

  3. Split Screen online doesn’t work the same way as on the Xbox - you can’t have 2 profiles signed in for the split screen, they have to be on the same profile, so you’re not getting experience for your actions.

As for people whinging that it’s inferior so they want their money back, why didn’t they go back to the store within a few days and get a refund that way?

I have a feeling that they want their money back AND want to keep the game, which will never happen!

Oh, and 620 people have signed it? Seriously? There is ZERO chance of this happening with a few hundred, and even with thousands, I doubt that EA/Activision will even take any notice.

  4. well this is a new one. But i do agree and sympathise with the PS3 owner why on earth dont they have the same if not better than the 360, now if i was buying a console i would be more inclined to go 360 as its got more games suited to my taste and i prefer the controller. But the PS3 is more powerfull and is some like majic star trek thing that just seems to gain more features when sony click there fingers. So why is there a difference in what you get. Because games publisher are Lazy.

I play PC games now the amount of stripped down features you get when it comes to PC games is unbelievable. No split screen co-op full stop in 99.9% of cases. games like left 4 dead & unreal need modding for two players, no split screen in ghostbuster and lets not mention some companies ability to optimise for most systems is appauling

its funny cause where this has been a standrad with games for many years buggy games hitting shelf. just this time somebody is makeing noise. Anyway long live Valve

  5. LOL, it seems people have fallen for Microsoft’s petition. The media are obviously fools for not spotting where this originated from.

  6. Microsoft are getting desperate now. I’m guessing Kinect sales have flopped and they need new stunts to try and make people believe the Xbox is still relevant.

  7. Simon,

You think Kinect sales have flopped? Try finding one - I had to visit 5 shops before I found one that had one in store, and everywhere else has been selling out as soon as they’ve had stocks.

If that’s flopping, then I’d HATE to see what Sony’s Move sales must be doing then, because everyone has TONS on the shelves! I’ll be buying Move in a few weeks, but not until there are games that I actually want to play…

  8. Fanboys Steve and Dan have not played Black Ops on the Xbox360. If he had he would understand why PS3 owners are pissed.

  9. While the PS3 version is “slightly worse” than the Xbox version, I don’t think it’s a “demand your money back” difference.

It’s still the same core game (with all of the same issues on both consoles), it’s only the 2 players on different tags on the same console, slightly worse graphics (which aren’t brilliant on the Xbox anyway), so a VERY minor difference.

This really is a stupid issue, demanding your money back for a game that is SLIGHTLY inferior to another version of the game is just sour grapes…

  10. Nobody is expecting a refund along with keeping the game. If they are, well they are just dumb. Most people that signed the petition are doing so just to vent the frustration of buying a game that is unplayable. My mates and I have been unable to join each others party since the first patch. It was bad at launch, but the patch made it worse. The PS3 version is more than “slightly worse” than the Xbox360. I have yet to have my 360 lock up while playing, yet my PS3 has locked up many times will trying to play online. It is just a shame that they would let the game hit the shelves for the ps3 knowing that there were so many major issues. It has been over a month since release and the game is still unplayable for a lot of people. Hopefully the next patch will help. We will just have to be patient and wait and see. Till then I will play the Xbox version. Peace.
