Richard Branson’s Project magazine launches on iPad

The first issue of Project, the iPad magazine from Virgin, is out today.

It’s now ready to download on iTunes, with the app itself being free, but each issue priced at $2.99, according to Engadget.

While we speculated that it sounded like an in-flight magazine last week, it’s actually more technologically oriented than the mag first sounded, covering the topics of technology, design, entertainment and entrepreneurs.

Articles include a look at a 205 mph hypercar from Jaguar, a piece on the super-chef who serves soil (they were called mud pies when we were young), and jokey articles such as the world’s suckiest ads. Jeff Bridges is on the cover in a feature about rebooting Tron.

Will it catch on? It at least sounds more interesting than the initial word which leaked out. Rupert Murdoch is also on the verge of launching an iPad publication, The Daily, as the Apple tablet continues to gather momentum on various fronts.
