50% of Xbox Live members are Gold subscribers

How many Gold members of Xbox Live do you think there are? Quite a few, it turns out, in fact a hell of a lot across the globe.

This fact emerged when Dennis Durkin, Head of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business, made a speech at the Credit Suisse Annual Technology Conference.

According to IGN UK he said: “Of our 25 million members, about half of them are subscribers to the business and pay us about $60 a year for that.”

So there are 12.5 million Gold members, generating around $750 million in subscriptions alone, and that’s without Marketplace transactions and so forth, which apparently represents a greater sum still. It would seem Live is quite the cash cow…

It will soon be 49.9999% after I have finished my subscription and if I can suggest to other people to stop their subscription and get ps+ instead - then i shall!
