Rim sees PlayBook software on smartphones

RIM Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis has been talking about the upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, and its relationship with the company’s BlackBerry smartphones.

According to Reuters, he stated that software developed for the PlayBook tablet would eventually find its way onto smartphones.

When smartphones get powered up and are using multi-core processors at some point in the future, Lazaridis believes there’s no reason why they can’t adopt the PlayBook platform.

Reuters quotes him as stating at the D: Dive into Mobile event: “By focusing on the tablet market, we see an opportunity to free where the smartphone can go. When we have multi-core processors across the board, they’ll all be running the PlayBook platform.”

Google, on the other hand, is driving the opposite way down the carriageway, taking Android from smartphones and onto tablets with Honeycomb (the next version of Android after Gingerbread).
