3 and T-Mobile roll out Froyo for Samsung Galaxy S

Samsung Galaxy S owners can rejoice, for Android 2.2 is finally out via networks 3 and T-Mobile – although evidently with some issues on the latter.

Phandroid spotted the fact that 3 announced Froyo was available for their Galaxy S users. It’s not being delivered over the air, rather, you’ll have to use the Kies software to update.

One of our readers (thanks Wayne) alerted us to the fact that T-Mobile has rolled out Froyo on the Galaxy S, again via Kies rather than a FOTA update.

That’s after several delays (it was promised last week), but looking at the T-Mobile forums, it seems that some folks are still having issues updating their smartphone to Android 2.2.

Some customers are complaining they still can’t see the Froyo update on Kies, while others have received error messages while attempting the upgrade, with the process failing.

And finally, some folks say that when performed, the 2.2 upgrade messes up their messaging system. One posted stated: “Totally crippled the SMS system – looks like lots of other people having same problem.”

So we’d advise backing up before going ahead – or indeed, perhaps waiting a bit longer still until T-Mobile has looked into some of these apparent problems.
