Amazon offers video games trade-in service

Amazon UK has launched a new video games trade-in scheme.

The online retailer will pay the postage on used games sent back to it, with a set trade-in value providing the item is in “good condition”. The customer will then get a gift card deposited in their Amazon account to the trade-in value.

Chris Poad, Director of Video Games at Amazon UK, commented: “Trading-in with Amazon.co.uk is quick and easy, providing customers with a great way to exchange their old games and save money on future purchases.”

However, some of the prices look rather miserly, certainly for the older games. A copy of Bayonetta or Forza 3, for example, will only net you £2. Presumably these will be sold pretty cheaply, too, although we shall have to see…

The expansion of the second hand games market is a thorn in the side of publishers, who are starting to take more measures to try and make used games less tempting (such as serial codes that are needed to play online or download bonus content, which can’t be re-used).
