Nokia E7 delay officially confirmed

Nokia has confirmed that it won’t ship its new E7 smartphone until early next year.

The Nokia E7 was first announced at Nokia World back in September, as a phone pitched at business users, with a 4 inch tilting AMOLED touchscreen display and full slide-out Qwerty keypad.

Back then, Nokia told us that the handset was expected to be out before the end of 2010, although last week, 3 announced that the E7 would be available on its network come the first quarter of 2011.

And now Nokia has officially announced the delay itself. A spokesperson for the company told Reuters: “To ensure the best possible user experience on the E7 we have decided to begin shipping in early 2011.”

This isn’t new territory for Nokia, as the flagship N8 phone was much delayed this year, as well. If the E7 turns out to be anything like that, we can pencil in another couple of delays and an eventual spring launch.

Nokia might still be the world leader when it comes to smartphones, with nearly 40% of the market tied up, but its lead is slipping. Further delays and problems are unlikely to help the Finnish company’s cause.
