O2 will be pushing out an update to Android 2.2 (Froyo) later this week, the company has said.

This information emerged on its Twitter feed, as spotted by T3. Yesterday afternoon, O2 tweeted: “Great news for our Dell Streak owners – the 2.2 Froyo update is coming this week!”

When asked by a punter what the exact ETA on Android 2.2 was, O2 confirmed: “It’s coming this week :)”

Whether or not it will actually arrive in the next few days, we wouldn’t put money on it, given the trouble generally associated with Android upgrades (particularly Froyo). Still, it shouldn’t be too long in coming.

Previously, Streak owners have been struggling along on Android 1.6. Froyo brings with it Flash support for the hybrid tablet-smartphone, amongst other goodies such as an increase in the performance stakes. However, Gingerbread (Android 2.3) is about to go live now…
