Samsung Galaxy S rings up 10 million sales

The popular Samsung Galaxy S smartphone has just reached another sales milestone, hitting 10 million units worldwide, according to the Independent.

Samsung announced that the handset had sold 5 million at the start of October, after four months on the shelves, so the pace of sales has quickened, with the second 5 million notched up in less time, just three months.

It makes for impressive reading, but is still considerably behind the sort of numbers Apple has produced with its iPhone 4, irrespective of antenna issues. Apple flogged 14 million units in the third quarter, almost triple Samsung’s numbers in the final three months of this year.

JK Shin, President of Mobile Communications at Samsung, commented: “The Galaxy S is the result of our 22 year heritage in the mobile industry. It is the realization of our concept of ‘the Smart Life’ – we wanted to makes users’ lives more convenient, more exciting, and more integrated.”

“Today’s milestone shows that we have succeeded: 10 million Galaxy S users around the world are living the Smart Life.”

In November, Samsung mentioned a sales target of 40 million smartphones for 2011, according to the Nikkei Business Daily.
