Kindle is Amazon’s best selling item

While the rise of the iPad appeared to have Amazon worried last year – spurring major price cuts to the Kindle, and measures such as the recent introduction of book loaning – it seems that the e-reader is doing pretty well for itself.

In fact, the Kindle is Amazon UK’s top selling product of last year, according to a report on V3.co.uk’s The Frontline.

The e-reader beat out stiff competition from the likes of Take That, Susan Boyle, Jamie Oliver cookbooks and Toy Story 3 to win the title of best selling product of 2010 on the online shopping site. It even outdid the Planet Jedward CD (“Who ya gonna call…. Rentokil, possibly?”).

In fact, the Kindle has been the best-selling product for two years running now on Amazon.com. On its website, Amazon proudly boasts of its widely adopted reading device: “Kindle is our #1 best-selling item for two years running. It’s also the most-wished-for, most-gifted, and has the most 5-star reviews of any product on Amazon.com.”

Currently, the new revamped Kindle with wi-fi will set you back £111, should you be tempted. The same price as twenty Planet Jedward CDs, except minus the tax on your sanity.
