Apple slaps VAT rise onto products

by Darren Allan

Some tech companies have decided to absorb the VAT hike which has come into effect at the start of this year, but Apple isn’t one of them.

The Cupertino gadget maker has passed the rise directly and immediately onto the customer, pushing up prices across the board with 20% VAT instead of 17.5%.

So the basic iPad (16GB wi-fi only model) now costs £10 more, £439 instead of £429. The mighty Mac Pro is up from just under two grand at £1999, to £2041.

Although if you’re going to be forking out that sort of money anyway, the extra 2.5% VAT probably won’t put you off. That’s certainly what Apple’s counting on.
