CES: Keep taking the Tablets

The Consumer Electronics Show, CES, kicks off tomorrow in Las Vegas, and looks set to be dominated by the tablet on the computer front.

Thanks to the success of the iPad, there are a huge amount of potential rivals queueing up to take a slice of the tablet pie in 2011.

Analysts are predicting a big upsurge in slate sales for this year, with the likes of Caris & Company estimating a tripling in sales figures over 2010, with 54 million units to be shifted globally (according to a report on All Things Digital).

Apparently there will likely be no less than 100 tablets shown at CES, all jostling for a piece of that action. Shawn Dubravac, Director of Research at the Consumer Electronics Association, revealed that number in an interview with the BBC.

Naturally, most of these efforts are doomed to fail by the sheer weight of the competition here, and the fact that the iPad has a pretty strong grip on the market. Caris & Co reckon that Apple will take home two-thirds of 2011′s mammoth tablet sales.
