Kinect responsible for red ring of death?

It seems that some folks who bought Kinect have been complaining that it might have caused their Xbox 360 console to develop the dreaded red ring of death fault.

The red instead of green lights upon the console’s boot up basically mean that it has died a death, and according to BBC Radio 4′s You and Yours, a number of Xbox owners in the UK have experienced this problem shortly after hooking up the Kinect.

One ten-year-old boy told the BBC: “We plugged [Kinect] in the day we got it but only played it a few times before we got the red lights. The next day when we tried it again we still had the red rings of death and haven’t been able to use it since.”

There are a number of similar tales of woe, and complaints on gaming forums across the net. Microsoft is unmoved, however, and stated that any occurrence of the red ring was nothing to do with Kinect.

MS told the Beeb: “There is no correlation between the three flashing red lights error and Kinect. Any new instances of the three flashing red lights error are merely coincidental.”

What is slightly suspicious is that the majority of reports of problems seem to be coming from those who own older consoles, which would suggest there could be a problem with these and Kinect.

  1. Is this any less “suspicious” when it happens to other makes of console?.

I have read of people complaining that they got the YLOD on their PS3 phats when they plugged in the Move camera. Of course people can see this as the Kinect or Move fault but in reality it’s more likly they haven’t been using their old consoles until these new gadgets came out.

And does anybody actually belive most of the stuff they read on forums ?, you only have to look at reviews on sites like Amazon to see that some stupid fanboys will even make out they bought their “Rival” console and it broke etc etc..
