Micron has announced a new range of four Solid State Drives for notebooks.

The RealSSD C400 drives come in 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB capacities, in both 1.8 inch and 2.5 inch form factors designed for ultraportables and standard laptops.

According to a report on Computer World, the drives are rated with read speeds of up to 415MB/s, almost 20% faster than Micron’s previous SSD line, the C300. Write speeds on the biggest 512GB drive will be 260MB/s, again 20% faster than the C300.

The new drives utilises Micron’s 25nm NAND flash technology, and comes with various advantages for laptops, including low power consumption for increased battery life, and tougher resistance to shocks and bumps than traditional hard disks.

Pricing is expected to weigh in at around the $400 mark for the 256GB drive.
