Amazon prepares Kindle app for Android and Windows tablets

Amazon has said that it intends to release a Kindle app for both Android and Windows tablets later in 2011.

Like existing Kindle software, these will be free downloads, and will give tablet owners access to the online retailer’s virtual bookshelves stocked with some half a million e-books.

Features will be the same, too, so you’ll be able to sync your books across different devices, so readers will always know what page they’re on, even when using different mediums to read.

Steve Ballmer’s CES keynote focused on Windows 8 and the fact that it will be compatible with ARM processors, meaning that full blooded Windows will run on future tablets.
