Intel agrees to pay $1.5 billion for Nvidia license

Intel has agreed to pay $1.5 billion to license Nvidia graphics technology.

The agreement draws a line under a long running legal dispute where the companies threw suits at each other (lawsuits, not menswear).

According to a BBC report, Doug Melamed, Intel Senior VP and Counsel, said: “This agreement ends the legal dispute between the companies. It also enables the companies to focus on innovation and the development of new products.”

The deal is actually a cross-licensing affair, meaning that not only will Intel have access to all of Nvidia’s patents over the next six years, Nvidia will also be granted access to certain Intel patents (although not processors).

All in all, a somewhat worrying development for AMD…
