The Chinese President Hu Jintao has confirmed to The US defence secretary Robert Gates that China has conducted their first rest flight of its J-20 stealth fighter jet.

The plane took off on Tuesday the 11th and flew for fifteen minutes in Chengdu. Multiple video’s of the event have leaked onto various internet sites such as youtube and tudou.

Mr Robert Gates three day visit to Beijing was due to US concern over the speed at which China was upgrading and modernising its military technology. However President Hu assured the US defence secretary that the flight had not been timed to coincide with his visit.

Mr Robert Gates quotes “I asked President Hu about it directly, and he said that the test had absolutely nothing to do with my visit and had been a pre-planned test. And that’s where we left it”

Both China and Russia are known to be working on stealth fighter prototypes. However at present, the US is the only nation to have a fully operational stealth plane invisible to radar. That said, China claims its stealth plane will be operational some time between 2017 and 2019.
