Wii balance board leads to Parkinson’s diagnosis

A woman from Leeds discovered that she had Parkinson’s because of her Wii balance board peripheral.

54-year-old Julie Wilks played Wii Fit with the balance board, and the peripheral told her when she began to put more weight on one foot, leaning heavily to that side. Loss of balance is one of the early mild symptoms of the disease.

Her lopsided balance, along with a couple of other symptoms she had noticed, led her to visit the doctors who diagnosed Parkinson’s, the Yorkshire Post reports.

She told the paper: “It’s quite amazing that a computer game was able to point out there was a problem.”
