As the launch of the PSP phone and the Nintendo 3DS, Microsoft has now described Windows phone 7 as its portable console.

For a long time Nintendo has been ahead of the market in terms of the mobile console sector, with PlayStation having a little less success with the PSP, but not far behind as they move in with the PSP phone by Sony Ericsson.

However with all the time Microsoft have had the Xbox out as one of the top consoles they have never really joined in the mobile console race, but now they are taking a shot at it.

With the Nintendo 3DS due to come out soon, Microsoft’s senior director of PC and mobile gaming Kevin Unangst has stated that the OS windows 7 mobile represents the companies efforts in mobile gaming.

“This is our mobile platform for games, the same people who make the Halo game, the same development folks, work on this, this is our mobile console.” Unangst stated.

Xbox has been heavily used within Windows phone 7 with the OS utilising the brand for its games. This essentially makes it their portable Xbox 360.

There has been talk of an actual hand held Xbox console for some time, but for now it seems Microsoft will be concentrating more on its home entertainment system, leaving mobile gaming in the capable hands of Tablet’s and Phones.
