Rumour: iPad 2 will double up resolution

If the iPad wasn’t already an impressive enough piece of technology for you, how about if the display resolution was doubled?

Rumour has it that, according to MacRumours.com, Apple may well take the approach of doubling up the resolution of the iPad 2 to 2048 x 1536.

While that isn’t quite a “retina display” like the iPhone 4 – it falls short of 300 DPI at 260 DPI – it would make matters easier for developers, as a simple doubling would be easier to support, MacRumours.com reasons.

The iPad 2 is expected to be slimmer and also have added front and rear cameras, and according to another rumour voiced by Engadget, an SD card slot. April is looking likely for the iPad sequel’s launch.

With 2011 set to be the year of the tablet – 80 of the things were shown off at CES – Apple is still expected to snag the lion’s share.
