Kotaku estimated a short battery life for the 3DS

Via Kotaku, Nintendo has estimated that the Nintendo 3DS has a battery life as short as three hours with all its features running, a disappointment for anyone wanting to take it out on a long journey.

The power can however be extended further if you switch to what Nintendo calls ‘power save mode’.

Shutting down the wireless features on the 3DS also saves power, along with dimming the screens brightness, and more importantly shutting off the 3D screen mode.

Doing any of the above can extend the 3DS’ life span up to eight hours, although this make make it only a fraction better than the DSi.

Kotaku has reported that the estimations of battery life are entirely due to the 3d mode and the wireless mode draining most of the power.

Another issue that has been brought into question with the 3DS is the alarmingly short power cable attached to the recharge cradle.

However Nintendo has stated that the pictures seen of the cable were for “Illustrative purposes only” and that they plan on creating a lengthier cable.

Also the DSi chargers are worth holding onto, as they are fully compatible with the 3DS.

The Nintendo 3DS is due to come out on the 25th of March, and the 27th of March in the US.
