On the 1st of February, Sky’s EPG channel line up is to go through some drastic changes, placing their HD channels further up the channel listings.

Excluding key terrestrial channels, 40 HD channels will swap around with the more prominently placed standard definition channels.

However, the Sky+ EPG will remain as it is, as only the Sky+ HD subscriptions will be affected.

This change was created for Sky customers to more easily access HD content on normal channels, making it simpler to locate the most commonly viewed channels.

These changes will represent the biggest update to Sky channel lines in over a decade.

Along with these channel swaps, Sky have also created a new channel, Sky Atlantic, which will be dedicated to critical drama more appealing to older and discerning viewers.

This includes an exclusive deal with HBO to show their content on Sky Atlantic, not least the major award winning shows The Wire, Mad Men, and the up-coming gritty fantasy epic, Game of Thrones.

Sky Atlantic will also show original UK commissions such as Paul Abbot’s Hit and Miss.

Sky Atlantic will be located on channel number 108 for Sky+ HD subscribers.

Roy Webster, Sky’s commercial director has said, “We want our customers to be able to discover and enjoy the content they are most passionate about, that’s why we’ve worked with a range of partner channels to ensure that customers can find their favourite pay TV channels and programming as easily as possible. With high definition viewing now demanded as standard, this has also meant swapping HD channels into the EPG numbers that our customers know best.”

He then went on to say, “The combination of high quality content, an intuitive, easy-to-use EPG, and innovative services like Sky+ HD and Sky Any time+, means our customers benefit from real choice, control and flexibility of viewing, whether linear or on-demand.”
