Nvidia’s Tegra 2 chip is already set to cause waves in the smartphone and tablet world.

The likes of LG’s Optimus 2X smartphone is set to have a powerful 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor as an engine, and tablets such as the upcoming Motorola Xoom.

But it seems that Nvidia is working on adding even more to the Tegra formula, with a 3D version in the pipeline.

Mobile Computing News reports that according to a leaked slide, the new Tegra 2 3D chip is due out in the spring, and will run at 1.2GHz.

In other words, we might soon see phones which could potentially boast 3D gaming capabilities akin to the Nintendo 3DS.
