42% of UK Kinect games are home-grown

by Darren Allan

An interesting statistic has cropped up regarding the sales of Kinect games in the UK.

It seems that 42% of the titles sold for Microsoft’s motion controller in this country have been developed by UK studios.

This nugget was revealed by UKIE/Chart Track, which notes that this figure encompasses ten weeks of sales since Kinect’s launch. The top title is Rare’s Kinect Sports, which has been in the all-format top ten for the last few weeks. It alone represents 28% of all Kinect games sold.

UK developers also feature prominently when it comes to Sony’s Move, accounting for 30% of all Move game sales since the peripheral was launched.

Michael Rawlinson, Director General of UKIE, commented: “The array of strong products that our home-grown, UK talent is producing is something we can all be proud of. This just shows how our UK developer base remains one of the best in the world, and can continue to step up to the plate as the market develops and platforms evolve.”
