Nintendo blown it with Wii 2 strategy says Pachter

by Tom Coyne

Wedbush Security analyst, Michael Pachter thinks that Nintendo have ‘blown it’ with the Nintendo Wii 2′s two console strategy.

With all the hype being made about the Nintendo 3DS hand held system being launched these days, it seems to be consuming most of Nintendo’s time.

However, Michael Pachter has been saying that Nintendo really needs to be concentrating on the Wii 2 right now.

Although he has been insisting that Nintendo put more time into the Wii 2, he seems to be incredibly pessimistic about their two console strategy.

Sales in the Wii console have been greatly declined of late, with business dropping by 38& in December in the US alone.

In an interview with James Brightman at Industry Gamers, Pachter states, “With as much respect for Nintendo management as I can muster, I think Nintendo’s completely blown it with their second generation Wii strategy. I think they have the mentality that to launch a new console they have to retire the old, and I think that’s wrong.

“I think the right strategy would have been to get a second generation Wii out and keep the old Wii at the same time, and have the second generation be the natural progression upgrade model.

“Instead, they’re actually conceding that multi-player market to Xbox 360 and PS3. They’ve always conceded it, but now with Kinect and Move, it’s a lot easier for people to make 360 or PS3 their starter console.”

Pachter does however claim that he could be wrong. After all Nintendo has had a large amount of success so far.

  1. Of course he is wrong, you shouldn’t do too much at one go. Nintendo are very clever and have a good philosophy for saving the pennies.

They will be thinking what to do next with their home console but why mention anything about the Wii 2 and see declined sales in it? DS has now bad sales due to 3DS coming out soon.

The new DS in America got rubbish sales due to it being leaked that 3DS was coming out.

This guy knows sod all about business.

  2. like above said he’s correct but i dont think the wii 2 will do any good due to the kinect and the price of that unit at the minute plus am unsure if the new wii 2 games would be a hole new range of games e.g like ps2 / ps3 games unless they’ll allow the wii games to play on the wii 2 console like playstation have done themselfs.

  5. the has 2 advantages over the ps3 and xbox 360 which is price cause u hav to buy kinect or move on top of a more expensive console and amount of games but the ps3 has a blu ray player built in and for £40 u can get playtv and turn it into a freeview+ box an the amount of games for both are increasing so the wii will be effectively redundent in a years time oh and btw i own a wii and hav done for 3 years and i have never owned an xbox or a ps3 so im not bias

  7. they might have the issue of price on the line but the ammount of people who own a ps3 or xbox 360 is more high enough flor them not to worry about price because most people own the consoles already so they would only just have to buy the addon part e.g kinect or move i doubt the wii 2 will beat either console because the wii doesnt have great games whats so ever were the ps3 and xbox 360 have a more wider selection of games and with the kinect that just come out the kinects going to take over the wii 2

  8. The next intendo home console won’t be named he “Wii 2″ as Nintendo always give original names to their consoles, with the exeption of upgrades such as the DS to the Dsi XL and everything inbetween, to the new 3DS. Let’s just hope we dont see a 3DSi XL…
